UW Press Wisconsin Poetry Series Reading
Presented in partnership with the UW Program in Creative Writing, a reading celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Wisconsin Poetry Series. Since 1985, the University of Wisconsin Press has published some of the most important voices in contemporary American poetry. This event will celebrate two returning authors in the series--John Brehm and Bruce Snider--as well as two brand new voices: Ambalila Hemsell and Sarah Kortemeier. John Brehm
John Brehm is the author of three full-length books of poetry, Sea of Faith, Help Is on the Way, and No Day at the Beach, all from the University of Wisconsin Press, and a chapbook, The Way Water Moves, from Flume Press. His collection of essays, The Dharma of Poetry, was recently released by Wisdom Publications. He is the associate editor of The Oxford Book of American Poetry and the editor of The Poetry of Impermanence, Mindfulness, and Joy. His poems have appeared in Poetry, The Gettysburg Review, The Sun, The Southern Review, Plume, Gulf Coast, The Missouri Review, New Ohio Review, The Writer’s Almanac, The Best American Poetry, The Norton Introduction to Literature, and many other journals and anthologies.
Ambalila Hemsell
Ambalila Hemsell is the author of the poetry collection Queen in Blue (University of Wisconsin Press, 2020.) She holds an MFA from the University of Michigan and is a former Writer in Residence at InsideOut Literary Arts in Detroit. She is a recipient of the Kundiman Sewanee Fellowship and a Pushcart nominee. Her poetry can be found in Fairytale Review, Columbia Journal, The American Literary Review, and elsewhere. Originally from Colorado, she now lives in Tacoma, WA, with her family.
Sarah Kortemeier
Sarah Kortemeier is the recipient of the Felix Pollak Prize in Poetry for her debut collection, Ganbatte (University of Wisconsin Press, 2019). She currently serves as Library Director at The University of Arizona Poetry Center, and she lives in Tucson with her husband, two rescue dogs, and lots of light.
Bruce Snider
Bruce Snider is the author of three poetry collections, Fruit, winner of the Four Lakes Prize from the University of Wisconsin Press; Paradise, Indiana (Pleiades Press, 2013); The Year We Studied Women (University of Wisconsin, 2003), and the co-editor of The Poem’s Country: Place and Poetic Practice (Pleiades Press, 2018). He is currently an Associate Professor at the University of San Francisco.
