Jonathan Alter, a Chicago native and former senior editor at Newsweek, is an analyst and contributing correspondent for NBC News and MSNBC. The 2012 campaign marks the ninth presidential election Alter has covered. His previous books, The Promise: President Obama, Year One and The Defining Moment: FDR’s Hundred Days and the Triumph of Hope, were bestsellers. He lives in Montclair, New Jersey, with his wife and three children.
