2022 Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing Fellows Reading

Adrienne Chung’s poetry and prose have appeared in The Yale Review, Diagram, Joyland, and elsewhere. She is a graduate of UW-Madison’s MFA program and the recipient of fellowships from the Wisconsin Institute of Creative Writing, MacDowell, and the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference. Based in Berlin, she teaches at the Berlin Writers’ Workshop and is an editor at Sand Journal.

Itiola Jones is an American Nigerian poet and music journalist. She is a Graduate Fellow with The Watering Hole and holds fellowships from Callaloo, BOAAT Writer’s Retreat (pronounced "Boat"), and Brooklyn Poets. Her works have appeared or are forthcoming in Guernica, Washington Square Review, Hayden’s Ferry Review, Hobart Pulp, The Rumpus, The Offing, Shade Literary Arts, Blood Orange Review and elsewhere. Her work was chosen by Khadijah Queen as a finalist for the 2020 Sublingua Prize for Poetry. She is an MFA candidate in Poetry at UW–Madison as well as the Inaugural 2019­­–2020 Kemper K. Knapp University Fellowship recipient. 

K. Iver is a nonbinary trans poet born in Mississippi. They are the 2021-2022 Ronald Wallace Poetry Fellow for the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing. Their work has appeared or is forthcoming in Boston Review, Gulf Coast, Puerto del Sol, Salt Hill, The Adroit, TriQuarterly, and elsewhere. They are the recipient of the 2022 Helene Wurlitzer Residency Grant. They have a Ph.D. in Poetry from Florida State University.

Claire Luchette is the author of the novel Agatha of Little Neon and a National Book Foundation 5 Under 35 honoree. They are the recipient of fellowships and support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Public Library's Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers, the Elizabeth George Foundation, Yaddo, and MacDowell. They are the 2021-2022 James C. McCreight Fiction Fellow at the University of Wisconsin.

Shaina Phenix is a queer, Black femme poet, other-art-maker, educator from Harlem, NY. She holds an MFA in Poetry from Virginia Tech and is the 2021-2022 Jay C. and Ruth Halls Poetry Fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is—her work is—obsessed with and possessed by many sounds of Black femmes, the passing down of stories, ocean, the body, mothering, acts of loving, and home(s). Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in West Branch, Glass Poetry, Fogl​ifter Press, Salt Hill, The Pinch, Puerto del Sol, Frontier Poetry, Shenandoah, The Offing, and CRAFT Magazine.

Alberto Reyes Morgan is the 2021-2022 Carol Houck Smith Fiction Fellow at the University of Wisconsin. His writing has been published by the Michigan Quarterly Review and anthologized in Catapult’s Best Debut Short Stories 2021: The PEN America Dau Prize. His interviews and translations have appeared in the books Invisible Hands: Voices from the Global Economy; Underground America: Narratives of Undocumented Lives; Solito, Solita: Crossing Borders with Youth Refugees from Central America, and others. He has provided literary criticism on Texas Public Radio’s Book Public and was the 2011 recipient of the Tillie Olsen Award for Socially Conscious Writing. He hails from the Mexicali–Imperial Valley border region and has taught in Ethiopia and Spain. He is at work on a novel.
